About US

As you are preparing to register your dancer with our Studio, we wanted to give you a quick background on our studio as well as the classes that we offer. Studio 33 Dance Company was only just a dream when it first began in the winter of 2015.  Crystal O’Quinn Boudy, owner of Studio 33 Dance Company, began teaching a few students in her home. However, as the calls started to come in from other future students, she knew a bigger space would soon be required.  Feeling lead by God to go into business for herself, she decided to make this dream a reality.  Through many blessings, Studio 33 Dance Company began teaching its first dance classes by renting space from The Top Hall Ballroom.  When it first opened, Crystal taught classes to dancers ages 12 & up in Hip Hop, Ballet, Contemporary, and Jazz.   Now in its permanent location, Studio 33 Dance Company is located at 511 North Spence Avenue in Goldsboro, and we are offering several classes to ages 2 & up.

When choosing a name for her studio, Crystal knew that she wanted it to mean something.  Not only to her but to the students that would call it home.  Studio 33 Dance Company got its name because 33 is the age Jesus was when he died for our sins.  Mrs. Boudy knew this would be a good conversation starter, and hopefully her new business would be another way to reach others for Christ.  Crystal felt lead to not only use this studio as a way to reach others, but as a way to build our dancers experiences.  During the summer of 2016, Studio 33 Dance Company took several students to New York to take dance classes with Broadway Dance Company and with a member of the cast from Wicked.  In the summer of 2017, Studio 33 Dance Company will head to Walt Disney World, Florida to participate in Disney’s Dance the World Event!

Many classes are offered at Studio 33 Dance Company to teach not only beginner dancers, but those of the higher caliber as well.  While choosing a place for a specific dancer is never easy, many things play a part in these decisions.  Such as how well does a student learn, how quickly they pick up choreography, flexibility, technique, dedication, attendance, etc.    Due to this we ask that you do not register for a company class unless asked to do so.  If you are new to pointe, please register for Pointe I – even if you have taken pointe at previous studio.  Once in Pointe I, the instructor will evaluate you and decide if you need to move to a higher level.  Ballet class is required for all pointe dancers.  This is for your safety.    We also offer a Jumps and Turns class.  This class is used to work on a dancer’s technique at the barre, and then put their technique to the test while learning and perfecting dance jumps and turns.  This class is open to any dancer 12 years and older, Jr. & Intermediate / Senior Company levels.  This class helps keep your dancer in tip top shape in hopes to avoid injuries, but to also keep up their stamina with certain routines.  If you have any questions regarding our classes offered, please ask any member of our staff.

This season, Company Dancers will be expected to follow the standards of a dancer in company.  A company dancer means you are a role model to other dancers.  You work hard, maintain academic grades, listen in class, and do things as simple as follow dress codes.  If a company dancer comes to class out of attire, your dancer may be asked to leave class – this will be an unexcused absence.  COMPANY DANCERS SHOULD MISS NO MORE THAN 5 CLASSES (PER GENRE) OF ANY COMPANY CLASS THEY ARE IN. COMPANY DANCERS, minus tap & hip hop, are required to take a ballet class. If a dancer is sick, please speak with one of us and we will make note of it.  However, if a dancer is injured, they are still expected to attend class/events to “mark” their spots/ or observe so they are not behind once they are healed.  These standards are the same for our Hope Traveler dancers as well.

Hope Travelers is returning this season, with some changes.  You must have participated in the essay section to be selected as a Hope Traveler.  This season we will add a small group of Volunteer Hope Travelers – meaning they will not take the class/ perform but will be selected for certain volunteer opportunities.  Crystal has been led to use her passion and talents, and those of select dancers at Studio 33 Dance Company, through her new adventure – Hope Travelers.  Crystal recently felt the call to start a ministry that would do exactly what it’s called… bring hope to those who need it.  A dancers attitude in class, drive to work, absences, and heart to love others is what was looked at when choosing these dancers.  This group will meet over the summer and begin to quickly learn choreography, they can only miss one summer class. Those that are chosen as performers will be held to a higher standard and asked to put Hope Travelers and dance above other sporting / activities.  Hope Travelers will visit local and distant areas, homes, hospitals, etc. that are in need of restoration and hope.  These dancers will perform what they have learned and use their talents to bring hope to these areas through dance.   Not only will they dance for them, but when the performing is over, they stay behind to volunteer in the very place they danced.  Hope Travelers will compete in one competition each season.  This is to give our dancers this experience as well as get beneficial feedback from the judges as well.  All students are able to enter in a self-choreographed routine, and encouraged to do so.   Please visit our webpage for more details on this amazing group of dancers.

We hope that after reading all of this, you are just as excited to join our studio as we are to have your dancer and your family.  Please see the attached sheets for classes offered and registration forms.  Please complete the following forms and either mail them back to our PO Box or drop them by the studio.

Be Blessed,

The Staff of Studio 33 Dance Company
